  • Mods Cafe @ Jalan Tokong, Malacca

I always find it exquisitely beautiful to see people doing things they love to do with so much of passion and effort. I have been reading reviews on this cafe located at a narrow street in the Historical City of Malacca and it is in my to-visit list.

Cut it short, it's Mods Cafe and I visited the cafe last week! Here's a short write up.

Mods Cafe @ Jalan Tokong, Malacca

Coffee work station creatively decorated in a classic volkswagen van. Awesome!

There isn't hardly anything better than the smell of coffee. The atmosphere resembles a quaint coffee house one would find walking down the old streets. Step inside the shop, and you feel a sense of comfort with the light color tones furnitures, colorful wall decors, marbled floors and the smell of fresh-brewed coffee. And so, sit back, enjoy the music and sip away.

While sipping your coffee, do try their Tiramisu- extremely moist and spongy in texture, it's a very light cake with mocha tasting- Nice.

A good start for me on a gloomy Saturday morning! Coffee, art, passion and a characteristic owner makes a prefect combination of everything.

Love and coffee, they go so well together!

  • Roasted & BBQ Pork Curry Rice @ Tengkera Food Court-Medan Selera Tengkera

And here is another review for roasted pork, bbq pork curry rice at Medan Selera Tengkera, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock. One of the locals favorite besides the stall at Bunga Raya-Kee Ann Road.

Roasted & BBQ Pork Curry Rice @ Tengkera Food Court-Medan Selera Tengkera

Running out with curry gravy, and this time it's only served with braised pork gravy. Crunchy roasted with well marinated barbeque pork and deep fried eggs. Would be perfect if it came with aromatic hot curry gravy though. Too bad, not my luck. Add ons- steamed water spinach (kangkung) with soy sauce.

Price at MYR 4.00 per plate, steamed water spinach at MYR 0.30/roll

Cheap and satisfying plate of porky rice- here, you can find!

And my next visit, would definitely be the stall at Bunga Raya.

  • Malim Jaya Curry Rice @ Taman Malim Jaya

For the locals, I am sure you know about Malim Jaya Curry Rice. They used to run their business at Jonker Street- the current Geographer Cafe. Although the restaurant has moved to another area in Malacca, the crowd is always there still.

And I was craving for curry rice. In Malacca, there are also several restaurant that sells curry rice served with stewed pork or roasted pork. The few famous one would be the stall at Kee Ann Road, Tengkera food court ( coming up next ) and also Malim Jaya curry rice.

Malim Jaya Curry Rice @ Taman Malim Jaya

Malim Jaya Curry Rice, does not mean that the rice are prepared with curry powder or leaves. To be specific it's actually white rice serves with savory braised pork and then topped with aromatic curry gravy. On top of that, you may opt for side dishes like stewed fried bean curd and eggs too.

  • Kedai Kopi Chung Wah Chicken Rice Ball @ Jonker Street Malacca

I have never thought of me queuing up for this- But I did! Lucky the queue was not that long, you got to be early especially during weekends.

Chung Wah, reputed to be the best chicken rice in town. The place has been around for decades and never fails to satisfy patrons that are willing to queue.

Kedai Kopi Chung Wah Chicken Rice Ball @ Jonker Street Malacca

Have a guess- What are these?

Smooth and silky steamed chicken served with thick gingery sauce. They would probably steamed the chicken with the combination of chicken stock and ginger sauce I supposed. The wonderful part still, the juiciness and tenderness of the chicken is very well maintained. Thumbs up!

Flavourful, grainy yet soft chicken rice balls. Perfect in texture! And not forgetting the tasteful spicy and garlicky chilli sauce. The combination of the delicious chicken, with yummy chicken rice balls and teasing chilli sauce makes a perfect meal indeed!

The difference between Hoe Kee & Chung Wah- Hoe Kee's steamed chicken is served with soy sauce and for Chung Wah, the chickens are served with gingery sauce- a pure Hainanese Chicken Rice recipe indeed!

The queue itself explains everything! Do try!

Price at MYR 36.00 for 4 person set.
